SistersWe (SW) is a 501c3 organization based in Muscoy, CA, a disadvantaged community in the county of San Bernardino (pop.12,562-2020 census). Established in December 2018, SW is the brainchild of biological sisters Nedra Myricks, Vanessa Dean and Adrienne Thomas. Adrienne (President) and Vanessa (Vice President) are graduates of the "Green Infrastructure" training program and are bringing the knowledge and skills they acquired to their community and others in the Inland Empire. Nedra (Executive Assistant) is a retired Administrative Professional. Daughter and niece Kristin Myricks (Treasurer) joined the group in 2019 after returning to the Inland Empire. All members of SistersWe have a long history of supporting community activities in the art and music fields.
SW proposes to plant trees, create community gardens, and green spaces on donated properties. SW collaborates with local schools, faith-based organizations and other community groups to bring awareness to the issue of how trees and green vegetation help sequester carbon emissions in our cities. Our goal is to provide Inland Empire residents and communities with cleaner air, healthier eating options and a healthier environment.
In addition to the beautification efforts this project will bring to their own community, SW will also support other local non-profits and residents in establishing environmentally friendly, green living spaces by creating community gardens and donating trees for planting in urban settings.
In efforts to assist with limiting materials going into our landfills, SW incorporates composting efforts in all their projects; recycling food scraps and other household waste into organic soil that is incorporated into the garden plots.
Additional programs will include health, exercise and educational workshops executed through relationships with and assistance from local residents. Ultimately, a Farmer's Market will be established showcasing produce and products created from the garden(s) local artists, and other vendors with hand-crafted products.
